11/10/2011
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team announced the signing of Alex Gibbs to a National Letter of Intent.
Gibbs is currently a senior at Granite Bay High School where he has starred on the golf team. He earned first team all-Sierra Foothill League honors as a freshman and junior and was a second team selection following his sophomore season.
Last season, he led the Grizzlies to a Sac-Joaquin Section title and also served as a team captain. His best career round was a 68 at the Rancho Murieta Invitaional.
"Alex is an all-around good kid who has a great demeanor on the course," Sacramento State coach Chris Hall said. "He's a big kid (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) and can hit the ball a long way. We are really excited to have him join the team."
During this past summer, Gibbs played in four Junior Golf Association of Northern California (JGANC) events. He tied for fourth at the David Oxley Memorial and Diamond Oaks Golf Club and had a low of 71 in the second round of the Sacramento City Junior at Haggin Oaks.
