SIMI VALLEY, Calif. —
The Sacramento State men's golf team continued its hot play during the opening day of the Bill Cullum Invitational, Monday at Wood Ranch Golf Club.

The Hornets, who are coming off a victory at last week's Wildcat Invitational, are in fourth place through the first two rounds, six strokes out of the lead. Sacramento State played the morning round of 5-under (283) but then posted a 290 in the afternoon to finish the first day at 573.

Long Beach State holds the team lead after shooting 283-284-567. Denver, which led after the first round, is second with rounds of 277-292-569. Arizona State (283-288-571), Sacramento State and UC Santa Barbara (281-296-577) complete the top five.

Individually, Grant Rappleye and Jordan Weir enjoyed the best days for Sacramento State. Rappleye posted two rounds of 70 and is tied for third. Weir is tied for seventh after shooting 71-70-141.

The Hornets got off to a quick start in the morning, riding the two rounds from Rappleye and Weir as well as a 70 from Jordan Swanson and a 72 from Cameron Raplpeye.

Cameron Rappleye added a round of 74 in the afternoon and is tied for 26th with a 36-hole total of 146. Swanson, who is playing in his first collegiate tournament, also totaled 146, following a second-round 76.

Senior Jake Johnson completed the Hornet lineup, shooting 79-76-155 and is tied for 69th.

Denver's C.J. Kim holds the individual lead. Kim carded rounds of 64-74-138 and is one stroke ahead of Loyola Marymount's Tyler Torano (70-69-139).

The tournament concludes with the third round on Tuesday morning.
