RAPPLEYE, JOHNSON POST LOW ROUNDS IN OPENING DAY OF BRAVEHEART CLASSIC

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Grant Rappleye's opening-round 69 and Jake Johnson's 71 in the second round led the Sacramento State men's golf team during the first day of the Braveheart Classic at the Oak Valley Golf Club.

The Hornets are tied for fourth in the 15-team field with a two-round total of 588. UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary's are tied for the top spot at 582 while Loyola Marymount is third at 583.

Rappleye shot 69-75-144 and is tied for sixth overall. His total places him eight strokes off the lead held by LMU's Jake Sarnoff (67-69-136).

Cameron Rappleye is tied for 15th after shooting 72-75-147. Johnson used a strong second round to move into a tie for 24th. The junior shot 77-71-148. Ryan Williams carded rounds of 74-77-151 and is tied for 37th while Jordan Weir shot 80-75-155 and is tied for 50th.

Jake Pineo, who was competing as an individual, is tied for 10th after shooting 70-76-146.

The final round will take place on Tuesday morning.
