MEN'S GOLF CLOSES UCSB TOURNAMENT WITH BEST ROUND, TIES FOR SEVENTH

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Behind its best round of the tournament, the Sacramento State men's golf team finished tied for seventh at the OGIO Santa Barbara Invitational on Tuesday at Sandpiper.
The Hornets shot 297 on Tuesday and finished the three-round tournament at 301-303-297-901 to tie Long Beach State. Oregon continued its dominance into the final round pulling away from the field with a total of 852. Host UCSB was second at 879 while Fresno State placed third at 885.
Jake Johnson led the Hornets in the final round with a 1-under 71. Johnson finished the tournament tied for 20th place with rounds of 75-79-71-225. Cameron Rappleye had the top finish among the Sacramento State contingent, tying for 10th at 75-71-73-219.
Jake Pineo had the third best round by a Hornet on Tuesday, shooting 75 which tied him for 42nd (76-79-75-230). Jordan Weir (75-76-82-233) and Grant Rappleye (79-77-78-234) tied for 55th and 60th, respectively.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Breaveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside beginning on April 11. The event will be the final regular-season tournament for the team before competing at the America Sky Championship in May.
