RAPPLEYE FIRES AN AFTERNON 71 TO LEAD MEN'S GOLF

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Cameron Rappleye's second-round 71 led the Sacramento State men's golf team in the first day of the OGIO Santa Barbara Invite on Monday at Sandpiper. Rappleye is tied for 10th in the field with a first-day total of 75-71-146.
The Hornets are in ninth place in the team standings after shooting 301-303-604. Oregon holds the team lead heading into the final round after shooting 274-287-561. Host UCSB is second at 288-292-580 while Fresno State is third with rounds of 298-294-592.
Rappleye was one of three Sacramento State golfers to shoot 75 in the opening round. He was joined by Jordan Weir and Jake Johnson to hold the team lead. Jake Pineo provided the final counting score with a round of 76.
In the afternoon round. Rappleye led the team by five strokes. Weir was second with a 76, Grant Rappleye added a 77 and Johnson and Pineo each shot 79.
Overall, Weir is tied for 31st with a total of 151. Johnson is tied for 54th at 154 and Pineo is one stroke back in a tie for 51st. Grant Rappleye is tied for 54th at 156.
Oregon has the top three individuals in the field through 36 holes. Jack Dukeminier and Robbie Ziegler are tied for the top spot with a total of 139. Dukeminier carded a round of 67 in the morning for the tournament low.
The tournament concludes with the final round on Tuesday.
