JOHNSON AND RAPPLEYE BOTH SIT IN TOP 10 AFTER FIRST ROUND OF LAMKIN GRIP

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. —Jake Johnson and Grant Rappleye are both in the top 10 at the midway point of the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Challenge on Monday. The tournament, which was originally scheduled for three rounds of match play, was switched to 36 holes of stroke play to avoid inclement weather.
Johnson is tied for fifth after firing a 73 while Rappleye is tied for 10th, one stroke back.
As a team, the Hornets are in fifth place with a first-round total of 306. Host Cal Poly is in the lead with a 292. The Mustangs are followed in the top five by Creighton (296), Cal State Bakersfield (303), Seattle (305) and Sacramento State.
Along with Johnson and Rappleye, the Hornets also counted scores from Jordan Weir and Cameron Rappleye. Weir is tied for 21st at 79. Cameron Rappleye is tied for 23rd with an 80.
Cal Poly's Bryan Pierce holds the individual lead with a 3-under 69. Fellow Mustang Bryce Greeley is one stroke back in second place while Cal State Bakersfield's Chase Goodvin is third at 71.
The tournament will conclude with the final round on Friday.
