CAMERON RAPPLEYE'S 68 LEADS MEN'S GOLF IN FIRST DAY OF BILL CULLUM

 SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team rallied from a tough first round to shoot an even-par 288 in the second round during the first day of the Bill Cullum Invitational on Monday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
Sacramento State shot 311 in the morning round but took advantage of a 68 from Cameron Rappleye and a 71 from Jordan Weir to storm back with a 288 in the afternoon. That score was tied with Utah State for the second-lowest team score of the round and trailed only UC Riverside's 286.
As a team, the Hornets' two-round total of 599 places the squad 10th in the 15-team field. Portland holds the lead heading into the final round with a total of 581. The Pilots are one stroke ahead of San Jose State and are closely followed by UCR (584), Cal State Northridge (585) and Cal State San Bernardino (587) in the top five.
Kenny Pigman of Cal State San Bernardino holds the individual lead at 67-72-139 and is two strokes ahead of four golfers who are tied for second. Pigman was aided by a hole-in-one on the 173-yard 13th hole.
For Sacramento State, Cameron Rappleye is tied for eighth at 75-68-143. Weir is tied for 28th after shooting 77-71-149. Jake Johnson and Jake Pineo are tied for 58th. Johnson shot 80-74-154 while Pineo recorded rounds of 79-75-154. Grant Rappleye is tied for 72nd after shooting 80-77-157.
