CANDLISH SHOOTS ANOTHER ROUND OF 70; MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT UC IRVINE

COSTA MESA, Calif. — Junior Kyle Candlish shot his second consecutive round of 70 and finished tied for 12th place to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team at the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday.
Sacramento State shot 290 in Tuesday's final round and finished the tournament at 299-288-290-877 in seventh place. Host UC Irvine rallied with a third-round 280 and won a tie break over Santa Clara for the team title. Both teams had a total of 848 for the three rounds.
Candlish's total of 75-70-70-215 was his lowest of the season by three strokes. The Rancho Murieta, Calif., native's round of 70 on Tuesday tied him for the fourth best of the day in the 57-player field.
Senior Nick Neal tied for 16th overall at 73-72-72-217. Sophomore Jake Johnson tied for 25th at 74-72-73-219 and sophomore Grant Rappleye tied for 49th with rounds of 80-74-75-229. Freshman Jake Pineo completed the Hornet linuep by shooting 77-75-78-230 to tie for 51st.
John Chin held on to become the medalist. Chin shot 66-65-71-202 and was four shots better than Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif., on March 1-2.
