MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT WOLF PACK CLASSIC; RECORDS FIFTH BEST SCORE IN SCHOOL HISTORY

RENO, Nev. — Kyle Candlish and Cameron Rappleye each shot 71 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team to a round of 286 in the final round of the Wolf Pack Classic on Tuesday. The Hornets finished the 54-hole tournament with a total of 869 to place seventh overall. The team's score is the fifth best in school history and its best of the season.

Wichita State, which entered the final round tied with Nevada for the top spot, pulled away to win the team title with a final round of 280. The Shockers finished at 847 and were two strokes better than San Diego (849). Nevada (853) placed third while Kansas State and Fresno State tied for fourth at 855.

Sacramento State was led in the overall standings by sophomore Jake Johnson who tied for 11th at 70-72-72-214. Johnson's 54-hole total  is tied for the eighth best in school history and marks the second consecutive week that he has cracked the top 10.

Candlish used his play on Tuesday to tie for 33rd at 72-77-71-220. Grant Rappleye was also tied for 33rd with rounds of 76, 72, and 72. Cameron Rappleye overcame a rough first round to record the best total over the final 36 holes for the Hornets. Rappleye shot 79-72-71-222 to tie for 45th. Nick Neal completed the lineup at 74-75-75-224 to place 58th.

Dustin Garza of Wichita State was the medalist for the second straight year. Garza shot 67-67-71-205 to finish three strokes ahead of Kansas State's Joe Kinney and Fresno State Bhavik Patel.

Sacramento State will next be in action on Oct. 26-28 at the Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational.
