MEN'S GOLF HOLDS ONE SHOT LEAD AFTER FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF PALOUSE COLLEGIATE

 PULLMAN, Wash. — Behind the play of Grant Rappleye and Nick Neal, the Sacramento State men's golf team owns a one stroke lead after the first two rounds of the Palouse Collegiate. The 54-hole tournament will conclude with one round on Tuesday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
The Hornets opened the tournament with a first-round score of 286. That mark gave the team a two stroke lead over host Washington State. Sacramento State battled through gusty winds in the afternoon round and posted a score of 293. That total ranked second in the round behind WSU (292) and left the Hornets with a first day total of 579. Washington State is second at 580 while Idaho (585), Loyola Marymount (586), San Jose State (591) and UC Davis (591) complete the top five.
Grant Rappleye shot 70-71-141 and is tied for third after the first 36 holes. Newcomer Nick Neal, who transferred from Utah Valley, made an immediate impact with rounds of 70 and 73 and is sixth overall.
Sophomore Jake Johnson is tied for 11th at 72-74-146 while Kyle Candlish and Cameron Rappleye are tied for 41st with a two-round total of 152. Candlish shot 77 in the morning and followed that round with a 75. Cameron Rappleye shot 74-78.
Washington State's Kevin Tucker holds the individual lead at 72-66-138. Jarred Bossio of Idaho is two strokes behind at 69-71-140.
