MEN'S GOLF AND NORTON EACH TIED FOR SIXTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF CU INVITATIONAL

PATTERSON, Calif. — Junior Grant Norton shot rounds of 70 and 74 to lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team during the first day of the CU Invitational hosted by Colorado at the Stevenson Ranch Golf Club on Monday.
Norton is tied for sixth place overall with a two-round total of 144. He is seven strokes behind Colorado’s Pat Grady who has the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round with a total of 69-68-137.
Grady’s effort was key to the Buffaloes taking the team lead through 36 holes. Colorado shot 292-287-579 and has a one stroke lead over both Washington State and Nevada. Sacramento State shot 294-299-593 and is tied for sixth place.
The Hornets began the day with a pair of rounds below par. Both Norton (70) and freshman Cameron Rappleye (71) were in the red. The team also counted a 76 from Jeremy Harris and received 77s from both Scott DeBorba and Jake Johnson.
In the afternoon round, DeBorba led the way with a 1-over 73. Norton and Rappleye shot 74 and Johnson contributed a round of 78.
Rappleye is tied for 11th at 71-74-145. DeBorba is tied for 35th at 77-73-150 and both Johnson and Harris are tied for 71st.
