CAMERON RAPPLEYE LEADS MEN'S GOLF IN FINAL ROUND OF BRAVEHEART CLASSIC

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Freshman Cameron Rappleye recorded his third best round of his career on Tuesday to lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team in the final round of the Braveheart Classic. Rappleye shot 72 at the Oak Valley Golf Club and finished the 54-hole event tied for 22nd place.

Sacramento State ended the tournament in 11th place after shooting 304-302-305-911. Oregon maintained its first day lead and won the team title at 287-292-296-875. The Ducks were followed in the top five by Southern Utah (882), Arizona (883), Loyola Marymount (887) and Cal Poly (887).

“I’m a little disappointed on how we played,” Director of Golf David Sutherland said. “The positives were how Cameron and Grant (Norton) played. Overall, it was not what we were hoping for and we will have to bounce back next week.”

Rappleye easily had the best score on the day for Sacramento State. The Christian Brothers HS graduate was four strokes ahead of senior Scott DeBorba who tied for 42nd overall with rounds of 77, 74 and 76.

Junior Grant Norton tied for 31st. Norton ended the tournament at 72-74-79-225. Freshmen Jake Johnson and Grant Rappleye tied for 83rd and 94th, respectively. Johnson recorded rounds of 83, 78 and 78 while Rappleye carded 80-84-81-245.

Southern Utah’s Naste Pasge overtook teammate Tai Reynolds to become the medalist. Page shot 74 and 72 on Monday and was three strokes back of Reynolds. On Tuesday, he shot 69 to total 215 and finish two strokes ahead of Oregon’s Robbie Ziegler.

Sacramento State will next compete at Fresno State Lexus Classic on March 9-10.
