NORTON LEADS MEN'S GOLF IN FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF BRAVEHEART CLASSIC

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Junior Grant Norton shot rounds of 72 and 74 to lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team in the first day of the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside. Norton is tied for ninth overall with a 36-hole total of 146 while the Hornets are 11th in the team standings. The tournament concludes on Tuesday with a single round at the Oak Valley Golf Club.
Norton posted the best score on the team in both rounds on Monday. His morning round was three strokes better than freshman Cameron Rappleye while his afternoon round tied the mark of senior Scott DeBorba. Along with Norton and Rappleye, the Hornets also counted a 77 from DeBorba and a round of 84 from Grant Rappleye in the opening round. In the afternoon, Norton and DeBorba were assisted by Cameron Rappleye (76) and Jake Johnson (78).
DeBorba and Cameron Rappleye are tied for 37th overall at 151. Johnson is tied for 87th and Grant Rappleye is tied for 95th.
Oregon holds the team lead after recording three of the top nine individual scores. The Ducks shot 287-292-579 and hold a 10-stroke lead over Loyola Marymount. Southern Utah and Long Beach State are tied for third with a two-round total of 590 while Tennessee is fifth at 592. Sacramento State shot 304-305-608.
Southern Utah’s Tai Reynolds shot 70-73-143 to take the individual lead. Reynolds is one stroke ahead of four golfers who are tied for second at 144.
