NORTON STAYS CONSISTENT, MOVES INTO THREE WAY TIE FOR TEAM LEAD AT PACIFIC

STOCKTON, Calif. — Junior Grant Norton shot his second consecutive round of 73 and is in a three-way tie for the Sacramento State team lead following the second round of the Pacific Invitational at Brookside Country Club on Tuesday. The Hornets are in 10th place heading into the final round.

Rice holds the team lead with a two-round total of 566 and leads Oregon by four strokes in the team standings. Kansas State and Fresno State are tied for third at 571 while BYU completes the top five at 573.

Norton had the best round among the Sacramento State golfers on Tuesday. The Sheldon HS graduate was 1-over on both sides of the course and played his final five holes at 1-under. Jeremy Harris shot 74 and is tied with Norton for 29th place overall at 4-over through the first 36 holes. Harris opened slowly on Tuesday, shooting 3-over on the first 10 holes, but bounced back with two birdies, two bogeys and four pars.

Freshman Grant Rappleye completes the three-way tie for the team lead. Rappleye, who led the squad with a round of 70 on Monday, fired 76 during the second round. The Sacramento native’s round included two birdies, three bogeys and two double-bogeys.

The Hornets also counted a 75 from Scott DeBorba in the second round. DeBorba moved to 6-over for the tournament and is tied for 42nd at 72-76-148. Cody Miller is 60th overall at 74-85-159.

Pacific’s T.J. Bordeaux and Rice’s Michael Buttacovli are tied for the individual lead following 36 holes. Bordeaux shot 68 on Tuesday to add to his first round 69. Buttacavoli has carded 70-67-137.
