DeBORBA AND NORTON TIED FOR TEAM LEAD AFTER FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF PING COUGAR CLASSIC

PROVO, Utah — Sacramento State’s Scott DeBorba and Grant Norton each shot 147 during the first two rounds of the PING Cougar Classic at the Riverside Golf Club on Friday. The pair are tied for 49th with one round remaining.
As a team, Sacramento State shot 294-297-591 and is tied for 13th. New Mexico State holds a two-stroke lead over New Mexico for the top spot. The Aggies shot 277-282-559 during the day. Saint Mary’s (279-284-563), BYU (287-279-566) and Washington State (285-285-570) complete the top five.
Scores were low throughout the opening two rounds as 14 golfers are even-par or better after 36 holes. Washington State’s Nick Ellis leads the way with rounds of 69 and 67. His total of 136 places him two strokes ahead of six golfers tied for second at 138.
DeBorba and Jeremy Harris led Sacramento State in the morning round with a pair of even-par 72s. The pair was followed by a 74 from Norton and a 76 from Cody Miller. In the afternoon, Norton and Kyle Candlish led the way with rounds of 73. Sacramento State also counted a 75 from DeBorba and a 76 from Miller.
The tournament will conclude with the final 18-hole round on Saturday.
