MEN'S GOLF RECORDS ITS BEST ROUND DURING THE FINAL DAY OF CAL POLY INTERCOLLEGIATE

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — Led by an even-par 72 from sophomore Grant Norton, the Sacramento State men's golf team shot its best round of the Cal Poly Intercollegiate on Friday. The Hornets, who shot 310 and 304 in the opening two rounds on Thursday, carded a 300 during the final 18 holes.

Host Cal Poly retained its title with a team score of 871. The Mustangs finished 11 strokes ahead of Cal State Northridge (882) and were 12 strokes better than third-place British Columbia (883). Stanislaus State (889) and Utah State (900) completed the top five.

Sacramento State finished in ninth place with a three-round total of 914. Norton posted the lowest score on the team in all three rounds. The Sheldon High School graduate finished tied for 13th overall at 223 (6-over). Cody Miller and Jeremy Harris also posted three rounds in the 70s. Miller tied for 23rd at 76-77-75-228 and Harris tied for 36th at 78-76-77-231. Kyle Candlish (T51st, 84-75-76-235), Scott DeBorba (T60th, 82-79-78-239) and Logan Finley (T60, 81-79-79-239) completed the lineup for the Hornets.

The individual medalist was awarded to Cal Poly's Brycen Wagner who defeated British Columbia's Cory Renfrew in a playoff. Both players concluded the three rounds with a total of 213.

Sacramento State will next be in action at the OGIO Intercollegiate hosted by UC Santa Barbara. The two-day, three-round tournament, will take place at the San Marcos Golf Club.
