NORTON LEADS MEN'S GOLF THROUGH OPENING TWO ROUNDS OF CAL POLY INTERCOLLEGIATE
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — Sacramento State sophomore Grant Norton posted the lowest round on the team in both of the opening two rounds of the Cal Poly Men's Intercollegiate, Thursday afternoon at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club. Norton shot 75 in the morning round and carded a 76 in the afternoon. His total of 151 places him in a tie for 21st place with 18 holes left to be played.
As a team, the Hornets are ninth overall with a combined score of 614. Defending champion Cal Poly leads the 14-team field at 581. The Mustangs are followed by Cal State Northridge (586), Stanislaus State (594), British Columbia (594), Cal State Bakersfield (602) and Utah State (602) in the top five.
Individually, Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio has the lead following the first day. Delio shot 69-71-140 and holds a two-stroke advantage over Cal Poly's Brycen Wagner and Utah Valley's Nick Nelson.
Sacramento State had its troubles in the first round, counting only three scores below 80. Along with Norton's 75, Cody Miller shot 76 and Jeremy Harris added a 78. In the afternoon, the team lowered its score by six strokes and saw Miller shoot 77, Harris 76, Kyle Candlish 75, and Logan Finley and Scott DeBorba each shoot 79.
The tournament will conclude on Friday with 18 holes.
