NORTON TIES FOR SIXTH PLACE AT BILL CULLUM INVITATIONAL

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Sophomore Grant Norton shot an even-par 72 in the third and final round to tie for sixth place at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge on Monday. Norton finished the three-round tournament with a total of 216 and helped Sacramento State to a sixth-place team showing.
The Hornets endured their highest-scoring round of the tournament on Tuesday and concluded the event at 293-297-304. Their total of 894 was 24 strokes behind champion UC Santa Barbara. Portland (881), Loyola Marymount (886), Southern Utah (896) and Gonzaga (891) completed the top five.
Norton’s third-round score was easily the best on the team. The Sheldon HS graduate was four strokes ahead of Cody Miller who finished with a consistent total of 76-76-76-228 to tie for 46th place. Jeremy Harris ranked second on the team overall at 67-81-77-225 to tie for 25th.
Scott DeBorba shot 74-76-79-229 to tie for 51st and Brad Carricho tied for 74th in his first collegiate event at 83-77-79-239.
UCSB’s Brian Hollenbeck posted three under-par rounds to become the medalist. Hollenbeck had a pair of 71s on Monday and added a 70 for a total of 212.
Sacramento State will close out the fall portion of its schedule on Oct. 22-23 at the Santa Clara Invitational.
