HARRIS POSTS CAREER BESTS TO LEAD MEN'S GOLF AT OGIO PACIFIC COAST INTERCOLLEGIATE

4/2/2007

SOLVANG, Calif. — Jeremy Harris led the Sacramento State men’s golf team during the opening two rounds of the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Monday. Harris shot 69 in the first round and added a 71 in the afternoon at the Alisal River Course. He is currently tied for 23rd overall and is nine strokes out of the lead.

As a team, the Hornets shot 288-292-580 and are tied for 16th place with one round remaining. Denver holds the lead after the first day after posting scores of 272-274-546. Cal Poly (275-275-550), UC Irvine (276-284-560), Oregon State (285-276-561) and San Diego (280-283-563) complete the top five.

Individually, Cal Poly’s Chris Kirk shot 64-67-131 and holds a four-stroke lead over Denver’s Jeff Koprivetz. Kirk’s scores put him 12-under par after two rounds.

Harris was part of a low-scoring barrage which placed 52 golfers at or below par on the opening day. The sophomore’s opening round 69 was the best of his collegiate career. If he is able to shoot 71 on Tuesday, Harris will tie current head coach Adam Pohll and Robert Hamilton for the lowest 54-hole total (211) in school history.

Freshman Grant Norton was also in the red for the Hornets on Monday. Norton shot 70-73-143 and is tied for 42nd. Cody Miller posted consecutive rounds of 73 and is tied for 59th while Scott DeBorba (76-75-151) and Kyle Candlish (76-76-152) are tied for 84th and 89th, respectively.
