LAYTON, Utah --- Newcomer Scott DeBorba shot rounds of 77 and 72 to lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team in its first event of the season. DeBorba’s total of 149 places him in a tie for 41st place heading into the final round of the Purple and Red Invitational at the Valley View Golf Club.
As a team, the Hornets shot 306-292-598 and are in a three-way tie for 14th place with Utah State and Wyoming. San Francisco shot 568 and holds a three-stroke lead over Hartford. Utah (574), Weber State (580) and Cal Poly (580) round out the top five.
Freshman Robert Budenbender and senior Chad Wood are tied for the second best mark on the team on Monday. Budenbender shot 75-75-150 while Wood posted rounds of 77 and 73. Jeremy Harris and Cody Miller each own a two-round score of 153 to tie for 67th.
Hartford’s Maki Kobayashi shot 66-72-138 and has a 1-shot lead over USF’s Taylor Hobin and Utah’s Dustin Pimm.
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with one final round.
