GREELEY, Colo. — John Bowen posted the lowest round for the Sacramento State men''s golf team in the third round of the Div. I Independent Championships hosted by Northern Colorado. Bowen shot 75 on Sunday and finished the tournament at 76-80-75-231 to tie for 34th place. ??
Overall, Sacramento State finished seventh as a team. The Hornets shot 307 on Sunday and ended the three-round event at 919. Northern Colorado won the team title with a total of 873. South Dakota State charged into second with a third round low 282 to finish at 881. Francis Marion (884) took third while Texas Pan American and North Dakota State shot 895 to tie for fourth. Utah Valley State ended the event at 901 and finished sixth.
Cody Miller led Sacramento State with a total of 227 (74-75-78). Miller ended the tournament tied for 23rd. Chad Wood shot 229 (78-73-78) to tie for 28th while Thomas Steinhoff (78-78-76-232) moved into a tie for 36th. Patrick Miller (78-83-79-240) tied for 44th to round out the lineup.
Nic Van Vuuren of Utah Valley State held on to the individual lead and shot 70-68-72-210 to become the medalist. Eric Johnson of North Dakota State finished second at 214 while Eric Higgins of Northern Colorado took third at 215.
