GREELEY, Colo. — Cody Miller shot 74 to lead the Sacramento State men''s golf team during the first round of the Div. I Independent Championships hosted by Northern Colorado.
Miller was one of five Hornets to shoot 78 or better in the three-round event. Sacramento State finished at 306, 22 strokes behind leading Francis Marion. Northern Colorado is second at 289 while South Dakota State (294), Texas Pan American (295) and North Dakota State (299) complete the top five.
Individually, six players broke par in the round, led by Adam Hart of Francis Marion who shot 69. Nic Van Vuuren of Utah Valley State, Aengus McAllister of Francis Marion and Eric Doyle of UNC are tied for second at 70.
Miller''s score places him in an 8-way tie for 16th place. John Bowen shot 76 and is tied for 24th while Thomas Steinhoff, Chad Wood and Patrick Miller each shot 78 to tie for 34th.
