SIMI VALLEY, Calif. --- Senior John Bowen recorded the low score on the team in all three rounds and tied for 14th overall at the Bill Cullum Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Bowen shot 73-74-78-225.As a team, Sacramento State struggled in the third round, shooting 327. That performance dropped the Hornets into 13th place with a three-round total of 949. Holy Names won the team title at 296-289-294-879. Cal State San Marcos (298-288-303-889) and UCLA (301-296-292-889) tied for second.
Individually, Charles Chae of Holy Names was the medalist. Chae was one stroke back after the first round but shot a tournament-low 66 in the second. He then held his lead on Tuesday with a 72 to finish at 211. UCLA’s Kevin Chappell was second at 72-73-70-215.
For Sacramento State, Chad Wood ranked second on the team with rounds of 77-79-82-238 which tied him for 53rd. Brian Little and Cody Miller tied for 61st with a three-round total of 243 while Thomas Steinhoff was 70th at 80-86-85-251.
The tournament was the final event of the fall season for the men. Sacramento State will next compete at the Carson Daly Invitational on Feb. 27-28, 2006 in Los Angeles.
