MEN’S AND WOMEN’S GOLF COMPLETE FIRST DAY AT TOURNAMENTS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- The Sacramento State men’s and women’s golf teams completed the first two rounds of their respective tournaments on Monday. The men are currently tied for 16th place in the 21-team BITE Pacific Invitational hosted by UC Santa Barbara. The women are tied for ninth place in the 13-team Fresno State Invitational. Both tournaments will conclude with a single round on Tuesday.

The men’s team shot rounds of 307 and 306 and are currently 25 strokes behind leading UC Davis. Brandon Kingsolver paced the Hornets with 77-73-150 to tie for 25th place. The four remaining Sacramento State golfers are within 10 strokes of Kingsolver through 36 holes. Brian Little shot 76-78-154; Matt Montez fired 79-77-156; Ryan McConnell shot 81-78-159 and John Bowen recorded rounds of 75-85-160.

The women’s team shot 328-335-663 to tie UC Riverside for ninth place. The host Bulldogs lead the field with a combined score of 611. Long Beach State is 11 strokes back in second place. Despite facing a substantial deficit from the lead, the Hornets are just six strokes out of sixth place heading into the final round.

Individually, all five Hornets shot rounds in the 80s and are separated by just six strokes. Sarah Kukyendall leads the team at 80-84-164. Heather LeMaster is one stroke behind at 83-82- 165 followed by Jennifer Parkes’ 82-84-166. Margaux Sheehan (83-85-168) and Kathryn Cotter (84-86-170) completed the lineup.

The men’s tournament is currently being led Washington State’s David Fern who shot 73-69-142. Long Beach State’s Kay Hoey recorded rounds of 77-68-145 to lead the women’s event.
