ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. --- John Bowen tied for 25th to lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team at the Fidelity Home Loans Invitational hosted by Cal Poly. As a team, the Hornets shot 309 in the final round on Tuesday and finished in 11th place.San Diego, which led after the first two rounds, finished tied with Saint Mary’s at 874. However, the Toreros were declared the team champions based upon the score of their fifth-place golfer from each round. Host Cal Poly was third (876) while Weber State (880) and Cal State Bakersfield (885) completed the top five.
Individually, Cal State Bakersfield’s Greg Lopez defeated Matt Brooks of Drake in a playoff to become the medalist. Both golfer’s shot 210 while Brooks fired a third-round 67 to force the playoff.
Bowen shot 77 on Friday and finished at 74-73-77-224. His final round score was tied for the team low along with Patrick Miller and Brandon Kingsolver. Freshman Matt Montez shot 78 and Brian Little fired 79.
