MEN’S GOLF ENDS TOURNAMENT WITH STRONG FINISH

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- The Sacramento State men’s golf team tied for the second-lowest score in the third round of the Carson Daly Invitational on Tuesday at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club. The Hornets shot 303 in the final round and ended the tournament with a total of 906 to finish sixth. Holy Names won a tie-breaker with Grand Canyon to win the team title after both teams shot 891 over the three rounds.

Sacramento State''s third-round performance was aided by Chad Wood who shot 74 on Tuesday. Wood, entered the final round tied for 11th place, but finished the tournament in sixth at 72-73-74-219. Brian Little tied for 15th after shooting 76-71-76-223. Freshman Matt Montez tied for 37th at 76-78-77-231, Brandon Kingsolver tied for 56th at 79-87-76-242 and Patrick Miller was 64th at 82-78-88-248.

Andrew Lawson of The Master''s College was the medalist after shooting 73-69-70-212 to finish one-under. Lawson was the only golfer to shoot under par during the third round. Kevin Chappell of UCLA was second at 70-69-74-213.

The tournament was the first for the Hornet men''s team during the spring season. Sacramento State will next compete at the UC Riverside Tournament on March 7-8 in Beaumont, Calif.
