LITTLE, O’MALLEY NAMED TO DIV. I ALL-INDEPENDENT GOLF TEAM
EDINBURG, Texas — Sacramento State’s Brian Little and Bryan O’Malley were each named to the NCAA Div. I all-Independent men’s golf team, it was announced today. Little was one of five golfers to me named to the first team while O’Malley earned second team honors. The selections to the team were based upon stroke average during the year. The Div. I Independents are Augusta State, Idaho State, Indiana-Purdue Ft. Wayne (IPFW), North Florida, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State and Texas-Pan American.Little led Sacramento State during the year with an average of 74.42. The Rancho Mirage, Calif., native had three top 10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the Cal Poly Tournament. Little also tied for the best score in the dual meet against UC Davis after shooting 71. Little shot 69 on two occasions, including the final round of the year at the Carson Daly Invitational in Los Angeles.
O’Malley averaged 74.73 in 15 rounds during the year. The senior from Corte Madera, Calif., finished eighth at the Santa Clara Tournament and tied for 11th at the Carson Daly Invitational. At that tournament, he shot 69 in the first round and 70 in the third round for his two best rounds of the year.
Rudy Celedon of Texas-Pan American and Emmett Turner of Augusta State were named co-Golfers of the Year. Celedon averaged 74.41 in 29 rounds for the Broncs while Turner averaged 73.31 and had two top 10 showings.
Last season, Sacramento State’s Tanner Makimoto was named to the first team. The Hornets have been competing as an independent since 2003.
