MEN'S GOLF DROPS TWO MATCHES AT WINCHESTER INTERCOLLEGIATE

AUBURN, Calif.— The Sacramento State men’s golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of loss at the Winchester Intercollegiate. The Hornets were defeated by UC Davis, 5-0, in the first round and then lost to the Stanford JV team, 3-2, in the second round.

Saint Mary’s and Cal State Bakersfield will compete for the tournament championship on Monday morning.

Sacramento State, which entered the tournament as the sixth seed, had its troubles against UC Davis in the first match. The tightest battle came at No. 5 where Brian Little fell to Erik Hill, 1-up. In the afternoon match, Little defeated Scott MacDonald for the team’s lone win. The Cardinal’s Matt Shin downed Kyle Davis, 2&1, and Pat Phillips defeated Tim Ohair, 7&6, to lead Stanford. The final two matches were all square when the round concluded. Those two points were split between the teams.

The Hornets will host the Sacramento State Invitational beginning on Monday, March 8, at Rancho Murrieta Golf Club. The two-day tournament features 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
