MEN'S GOLF SIXTH AFTER FIRST ROUND OF SACRAMENTO STATE INVITE

The Sacramento State men’s golf team finished sixth after the first round of the Sacramento State Invitational, Monday afternoon at the Rancho Murieta Country Club. The event marks the only home tournament for the Hornet golf program in the 2003 season.

UC Davis leads the tournament after shooting rounds of 296 and 299 to finish with a team score of 595. Santa Clara (301-302) and Saint Mary’s (302-301) are eight strokes off the lead with a score of 603 while Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, Sacramento State, Portland, and Gonzaga round out the rest of the field. The Hornets are currently 33 shots off the lead with a final score of 305-323-628.

Individually, Santa Clara’s Blake Lugar claims the top spot with rounds of 70 and 71 to finish two shots better than Joe Lanza (SMC) and Eric Restrepo (UCD) who are tied for second. The Hornets were led by Tanner Makimoto who is fifth with scores of 71-75-146. Brian O’Malley (tied 24th) and Chris Medina (tied 28th) also finished in the top 30 after one round.

The final round of the tournament will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
