WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH, MEN 15TH AT NORTHRIDGE TOURNAMENTS

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— The Sacramento State women’ golf team placed seventh and the men’s team finished 15th at a pair of collegiate golf tournaments hosted by Cal State Northridge. The women’s team competed in the 36-hole Matador Fall Classic in Ventura, Calif., while the men’s squad played in the 54-hole Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate in Simi Valley, Calif.

The women’s tournament was won by the host Matadors. Cal State Northridge shot rounds of 295 and 309 to finish with a team score of 604. Sacramento State was 48 shots off the lead with a final score of 335-317-652. San Diego State, Portland, UC Riverside and Western New Mexico completed the top five.

Individually, CSN’s Elizabeth Allen claimed medalist honors with rounds of 70 and 74 to finish four shots better than Sayna Miyajima (SDSU) and Emma Wahlgren (CSN) who tied for second. The Hornets were led by Tracy Nichols who tied for 12th with scores of 80-75-155. Courtney Cotter (tied 25th) and Mackenzie Francis (30th) also finished in the top 30.

The men’s tournament was won by the University of Utah. The Utes finished 18 shots better than second-place North Texas after shooting 292-287-288-867. Austin Peay placed third while Arizona State and Cal State Stanislaus tied for fourth. Sacramento State overcame a 314 first-round score with a 304 in the second round and final day 310.

Utah’s Casey Fowles was the medalist with a three-round total of 208 (70-70-68). Tanner Makimoto paced the Hornets with a tie for 10th place and a final score of 219.
