WOMEN PLACE SECOND, MEN 11th AT GOLF TOURNAMENTS

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— The Sacramento State women’s golf team continued its strong showing at the Colby Invitational by placing second. The Hornet men’s team ended the Anteater Invitational in 11th.

Led by a third-place finish from Tracy Nichols, Sacramento State ended the two-round event with a team score of 637. Cal State Northridge won the tournament with a total of 613. Nichols shot rounds of 75 and 77 to conclude the tournament at 152. She trailed only CSN’s Kathy Pareja (149) and Kelley Carlson (151). Christy Ferrero tied for ninth place with a total of 158 (79-79) to join Nichols in the top 10.

Audra Mason (T21, 80-85-165), Lindsey Oleksa (T26, 82-86-168) and Mackenzie Francis (T36, 93-80-173) rounded out the field for the Hornets.

The men’s team, which stood in 11th place entering the third round, remained in 11th at the conclusion of the tournament at the SCPGA Champions Course in Calimesa, Calif. St. John’s took home the team title with a total of 884. Sacramento State tallied a total of 913.

The Hornets were led by Kyle Davis who shot rounds of 76-77-72 to tie for 18th place. Bill Hurwitz was second on the team with a total of 227 (73-72-82). Matt Klenz of Santa Clara captured the medalist honors by defeating five other players in a playoff. All six golfers finished the tournament with a two-over 218.
