SAN JOSE, Calif. --- Senior Bill Hurwitz shot rounds of 69, 71 and 77 to tie for fourth place and help lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team to a sixth-place tie at the Santa Clara Invitational onTuesday.The three-round tournament, which was played at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club, was won by San Jose State. The Spartans finished with a total of 872, 17 strokes better than second-place Cal State Bakersfield. Stanislaus State (891), Santa Clara (893) and Cal State Monterey Bay (906) rounded out the top five. Sacramento State and San Francisco tied for sixth at 908.
Individually, Isaac Weintraub of San Jose State shot 67 in the third round to claim medalist honors. Weintraub ended the tournament with a three-round total of 213. Brent Jensen of Saint Mary’s and Dan Warburton of Cal State Bakersfield tied for second at 215.
Hurwitz, who led after the first two rounds, shot 77 in the final round to tie for fourth with Matt Higley of Cal State San Marcos.
Sophomore Zach Spinuzzi was the only other Hornet to place in the top 20. Spinuzzi whot 71-76-74-221 to tie for 12th.
The event marked the final tournament for Sacramento State during the fall season. The team will take a couple of months off before beginning the spring portion of its schedule.
