SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The University of Idaho held on to its lead after

the first day and captured the team title at the Sacramento State

Invitational by one shot on Tuesday at Rancho Murieta Country Club.

Sacramento State shot 299 in the final round and tied Washington

State for second place.

Idaho, which led by two shots over WSU after the first two rounds,

shot 303 as team on Tuesday and ended the three-round event with a

score of 899. The Hornets'' final round was the low score for the day

and gave the squad a total of 900.

Stanislaus State''s Mark Lawless ran away with medalist honors.

Lawless fired rounds of 72, 69 and 71 to finish at 212. Jon Reehoorn

of Washington State and Drew Corwin of Santa Clara tied for second at

219.

Sacramento State comeback attempt was sparked by the play of Bill

Hurwitz. The Sacramento, Calif., native shot 69 in the final round to

tie Lawless for the tournament low. The 69 was also Hurwitz''s career

best in a collegiate competition. Zach Spinuzzi tied Hurwitz for

sixth place with 224.
