WILLIAMS TIED FOR LEAD FOLLOWING FIRST DAY AT SAINT MARY'S
Ryan Williams shot 72-68 and is tied for the lead at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
SEASIDE, Calif. — Senior Ryan Williams recorded a career-best 68 in the second round to move into a tie for first place at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Monday. As a team, the Hornets surged from 15th place to a tie for ninth with scores of 315-290-605. The tournament concludes on Tuesday with the third round from Blackhourse Golf Course.
Williams' first day total of 72-68-140 is tied with Saint Mary's Jonathan De Los Reye for the top spot. The pair of a two-stroke lead over four golfers who are tied for third. Williams began both his rounds on the 11th hole and was 3-over through his first nine holes of the first round. Over his final nine holes of the round, he recorded birdies on the par-4 3rd and par-5 8th along with a bogey on the par-3 6th. He ended his round with an eagle on the par-5 10th.
In the second round, Williams was 2-over through three holes with bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12 sandwiched around a birdie on the par-5 12th. From that point, he played the next six holes at 3-under with birdies on Nos. 16, 18 and 1. A bogey on No. 3 was his only blemish over his final 15 holes and was followed by birdies on Nos. 4, 6 and 8.
Jordan Weir ranked second on the team and is tied for 48th overall with rounds of 79 and 74. Weir, who started on the 11th hole, immediately got himself into trouble with a quadruple bogey on the par-4 12th, a double bogey on the par-4 13th and a bogey on the par-3 14th. A birdie on the par-4 15th was followed by a double bogey. He then played his final 12 holes at 1-under par with four birdies (Nos. 18, 7, 8, 10) five pars and three bogeys). In the second round, Weir was much more consistent with four birdies, eight pars and six bogeys.
Sophomores Eric and Owen Taylor are tied for 61st and 71st respectively. Eric shot 82-73-155. His opening round had one birdie, seven pars, nine bogeys and a double bogey. In the afternoon, he set a career high playing at 1-over par. He was even through his first nine holes with one birdie and a bogey. Owen carded rounds of 83-75-158. His second round had six birdies along with four pars, seven bogeys and a double bogey.
Jordan Swanson rounded out the lineup after shooting 82-79-161 and is tied for 76th.
