MEN'S GOLF CLOSES SEASON AT NCAA NORMAN REGIONAL

Cameron Rappleye finished the NCAA Norman Regional with a team-best 72 on Saturday.
NORMAN, Okla. — The Sacramento State men's golf concluded play at the NCAA Norman Regional in 11th place on Saturday at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club.
The Hornets shot 304 in the final round and ended with a three-round total of 903. Washington was the team champion with a total of 860. Texas finished second, four strokes back while Florida State and Illinois each shot 871 to tie for third. Host Oklahoma rallied during the final day to finish fifth and claim the final berth to the NCAA Championships.
Cameron Rappleye shot an even-par 72 to lead the Hornets during the third round. Rappleye tied for 40th overall at 77-78-72-227. The senior bogeyed his first hole (No. 10) but returned to even with a birdie on the par-5 13th. After three straight pars, he hit a rough stretch with bogeys on Nos. 17, 1, 3 and 4 to stand at 4-over with five holes left. He parred the par-5 fifth and then birdied the par-3 sixth and the par-4 seventh. Rappleye highlighted his round with an eagle on the par-5 eighth before closing with a par.
Grant Rappleye shot 75 for the team's second lowest round. Rappleye was even at the turn with three birdies, three pars and three bogeys. On the front side had had six pars and three bogeys. The senior finished tied for 35th place with a 54-total of 226.
Jake Johnson also tied for 35th after shooting 73-75-78. On Saturday, Johnson stood at 5-over at the midway point of his round after recording five pars, three bogeys and a double bogey. He eventually climbed to 7-over after 11 holes before playing his final seven holes at 1-under with the help of birdies on the Nos. 6 and 8.
Ryan Williams matched Cameron Rappleye's total of 227 to tie for 40th. Williams birdied the 10th to start his round and stood at 1-over through nine. On the front side of the course, he encountered some trouble with two bogeys and two double-bogeys among his first five holes. He finished his round with a 79.
Jordan Weir shot 86 and finished in 73rd place with a 54-hole total of 242.
The tournament was the final event for Sacramento State as well as seniors Cameron and Grant Rappleye and Jake Johnson. The team won two events during the year, including the America Sky Conference Championship by a record 42 strokes.
