Ryan Williams tied for the team lead with a 76 in the second round of the Winchester Classic.

MEADOW VISTA, Calif.  —
Ryan Williams and Cameron Rappleye each shot 76 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team in the second round of the Winchester Classic on Saturday.

Tougher pin placements and sweltering temperatures led to high scores for five of the seven teams on Saturday. Fresno State was one of the exceptions as the Bulldogs jumped into first place with a second-round best of 290. UC Davis, which held the lead following the first round, dropped to second and is now 10 strokes off of Fresno State. Idaho vaulted over Sacramento State to move into third with a two-round total of 597. The Hornets and Nevada are tied for fourth at 599.

Cameron Rappleye dropped into a tie for fifth place in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 146. Grant Rappleye is tied for 13th at 71-78-149. Williams has two rounds of 76 and Jordan Weir shot 75-77-152 to place both in a tie for 23rd place. Jake Johnson is tied for 37th after shooting 77-82-159.

Two of the lowest rounds recorded by Hornets did not count towards the team total on Saturday. Brothers Owen and Eric Taylor are each in the top 15 but are competing as individuals. Owen is tied for 10th at 73-75-148. Eric is tied for 15th after shooting 76-74-150.

The tournament concludes with the final round on Sunday at 8 a.m. Aside from the tournament standings, the competition also counts towards the Causeway Cup between Sacramento State and UC Davis. The school that has the better finish will earn five points. UC Davis currently holds a 45-40 advantage with only men's golf and men's and women's track remaining.
