MEN'S GOLF HOLDS TEAM LEAD; RAPPLEYE SHARES INDIVIDUAL LEAD AT BRAVEHEART CLASSIC
Cameron Rappleye set his career low with a 66 to move into a tie for first place.
BEAUMONT, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team recorded seven rounds of even par or better to take a 10-stroke lead following the first two rounds of the Braveheart Classic on Monday. The tournament concludes with the third round on Tuesday at the Oak Valley Golf Club.
Cameron Rappleye used a career best 66 in the second round to move into a tie for first place with a 36-hole total of 138. Rappleye's score was the low for the day in the 66-man field and bettered his career best by two strokes.
In the morning. Jordan Weir and Ryan Williams each shot 69 to lead the Hornets to a 6-under round of 282. Cameron and Grant Rappleye each contributed even-par 72s toward the team total.
In the afternoon, Rappleye's 66 was joined by a 70 from Weir, a 72 from Williams and a 73 from Grant Rappleye.
As a team, the Hornets shot 281 and finished the day at 563. Cal State Fullerton, who was tied with Sacramento State following the first round, fell 10 strokes off the pace and is second at 573. San Francisco sits in third at 575 and is followed by Utah Valley (579) and La Verne (586).
Brayden Eriksen of Utah Valley and USF's Ji Hwan Park matched Rappleye's 138 to tie for the individual lead. Eriksen shot 65-73 while Park carded rounds of 71 and 67.
