MEN'S GOLF RECORDS BEST TEAM SCORE OF THE DAY IN FINAL ROUND OF GOLFWEEK CONFERENCE CHALLENGE

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Casey Leebrick completed his outstanding Hornet debut by tying for second place at the Golfweek Conferecen Challenge on Tuesday. Leebrick had rounds of 72-70-67-209 and finished three strokes behind David Perkins of Illinois State.

Sacramento State finished the tournament in 11th place and moved five spots up the board during the third round. The Hornets totaled 281 during the final round to finish 7-under par during the day. That score was eight strokes better than the closest team on Tuesday and was tied for the second lowest over the three day tournament. Ball State claimed the team title after shooting 279-281-293-853.

Leebrick wasted no time getting under par as he birdied the par-4 16th to start his day. After three pars, he birdied the par-4 second and fourth holes to move to 3-under. He dropped to 5-under following birdies on the par-5 ninth and par-4 10th before he recorded his first bogey on the par-5 12th. The sophomore parred his next two holes and ended with a birdie on the par-5 15th. His score is tied for the 19th lowest in program history and matched his career low which came last season at the Montgomery Cup while he competed for York College.

Ethan Davidson was 2-under par, Jonathan Tanihana was 1-under and Christian James 1-over to account for the remainder of the team total. Davidson started with a bogey on the 18th before making his move with birdies on Nos. 1, 6 and 7. A bogey on the par-3 eighth left him at 1-under at the midway point of his round. He moved to even with a bogey on the par-4 11th but played his final six holes at 2-under with birdies on the par-4 14th and 17th.

Tanihana was 2-over par through his first seven holes following bogeys on No. s1 and 5. His first birdie came on the par-5 sixth and he fell back to even with a birdie on the par-5 ninth. The JC transfer moved back to 1-over with a bogey on No. 10 but closed with a pair of birdies over his final six holes.

James also had to work out of an early deficit as he had a double bogey on the par-54 17th to start his round and a bogey on the par-4 third to leave him at 3-over. He remained there through his first nine holes before birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 helped draw him back to 1-over. Two holes later, he bogeyed the par-4 11th but followed with two pars, a birdie on the par-4 14th, and two more pars. His round of 73 was the second best of his Hornet career and just two strokes off his collegiate best which came while playing at Utah.

Jeff Carr completed the lineup with a round of 80. Carr had two birdies, eight bogeys and a double bogey in his round.

Sacramento State will next play at the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno, Calif., on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
