LANDON AZEVEDO NAMED BIG SKY MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

OGDEN, Utah — After going 3-0 and leading the Sacramento State men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Cal Poly Match Play, Landon Azevedo was named the Big Sky Men's Golfer of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the second for Azevedo during his career.

The senior opened the tournament with a convincing 5&4 win over Cal Poly's Chase Casaga. He returned that afternoon to top UC Santa Barbara's Justin Sheparovich 3&2. Azevedo was 1-down through eight holes but drew all square after a win on No. 9. He took his first lead on No. 11 but Sheparovich squared the match on No. 12 before Azevedo won with wins on Nos. 14 and 15.

On Tuesday, Azevedo defeated Colten Cordingley of Utah State, 6&5. He never trailed during the round and was only all square on two occasions. Azevedo captured the first hole and then put the match out of reach with wins on Nos. 7-10 to go 5-up. Azevedo pushed his advantage to 6-up with a birdie on No. 13 and ended the match.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Redhawks Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. The tournament will mark the second time the Hornets have competed at a former US Open course (The Olympic Club) this spring.
