SAN FRANCISCO — The Sacramento State men's golf team wrapped up play at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Hornets shot 301 and finished the event in 12th place. Sacramento State was led by freshman Joe Fowler who shot a 2-over par round of 73 marking the third different individual leader in as many rounds for the team.
Nevada rallied to win the team title by one stroke over Cal State Fullerton. The Wolf Pack were 2-over par as a team during the third round and made up six strokes on the Titans during the round. Santa Clara was third at 862 while San Francisco and BYU tied for fourth place at 868.
Fowler tied for 57th overall at 81-76-73-230. His third round was highlighted by an eight-hole stretch which he played at 3-under par with birdies on the par-3 13th and par-5 17th and first. However, he immediately bogeyed Nos. 2-4 and ended with a bogey on No. 8 to wrap up the round at 2-over.
Landon Azevedo ranked second on the team with a 74 on Tuesday. Azevedo started the tournament with an 87 but had the lowest combined total on the team over the final two rounds. He also had three birdies on Tuesday along with two bogeys and two double bogeys.
Jeff Carr tied for 39th after carding rounds of 72-75-77-224 for the best finish on the team. Carr was 3-over through his first seven holes before his first bogey on the par-4 18th. He moved to 6-over through but answered with a birdie on No. 7. However, a bogey on the par-4 ninth took him back to 6-over for the round.
Ethan Davidson also shot 77 to account for the final team score. Davidson had one birdie, two bogeys, a double and a triple during the third round. He tied for 60th place at 80-76-77-233.
Riley Bell tied for 43rd overall at 79-67-78-225. Bell's third round was comprised of a birdie, six bogeys and a double bogey.
Sacramento State will next compete at the GCU Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Phoenix.
