MEN'S GOLF SELECTED SECOND IN BIG SKY PRESEASON POLL

OGDEN, Utah — The Sacramento State men's golf team was picked to finish second at the Big Sky Conference Championships, it was announced today. The preseason poll was voted on by league head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Hornets tallied 31 points to finish five points behind Northern Colorado and six ahead of Idaho.

Northern Colorado was voted to win the team title after capturing its first conference crown in league history a year ago. The Bears return three out of five members of its championship squad, including the 2018 Big Sky Men's Golfer of the Year, Joshua Matz.

Sacramento State's top returner from last season's Big Sky Championship is Jeff Carr. The sophomore finished 12th a year ago to lead five Hornets in the top 25. During four fall tournaments, he averaged 73.18 with a low of 69. Joseph Fowler owned the best scoring average for the Sacramento State in the fall at 72.33. The freshman had four rounds of 71 or better, including a 65 in the opening round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate in November.

The remainder of the poll was comprised of Binghamton, Southern Utah and Hartford.

The Hornets will open the spring portion of their season on Feb. 11-12 at The Farms Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The annual Sacramento State Invitational will be held on Mar. 4-5 at Valley Hi Country Club. The team will play in five other tournaments in March and April before the Big Sky Championships.
