OLSEM FIRES 3-UNDER PAR TO LEAD MEN'S GOLF IN SECOND ROUND OF GOLFWEEK CONFERENCE CHALLENGE

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A career-best round of 69 from Eric Olsem helped guide the Sacramento State men's golf team to a 10-stroke improvement during the second round of Golfweek Conference Challenge on Monday at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.

The Hornets shot 295 during the round and are tied for 15th place with Dayton with a total of 600. Arkansas State opened up a 12-stroke advantage in the team standings after shooting 12-under par during the second round.

Olsem moved into 26th place and finished 3-under par during the day. He started with a bogey on the par-4 10th hole before a birdie on the par-4 11th. After three pars, he bogeyed the par-5 15th but made the turn even following a birdie on the par-4 18th. Olsem dropped below par with a birdie on the par-4 first and later birdied the par-4 third. He had a birdie and two bogeys on the next five holes but ended his day with an eagle on the 559-yard par-5 ninth.

Landon Azevedo and Riley Bell each shot 75 to tie for the second best score on the team during the day. Azevedo was 1-over par over his first nine holes with a birdie on the par-4 16th and two bogeys. A quadruple bogey on the par-4 second jumped him to 5-over but he added three birdies (Nos. 4, 6 and 9) with only one bogey over his final six holes. Bell had one bogey and one birdie through his first 10 holes. A stretch of three consecutive bogeys on holes Nos. 2-4, were followed by a birdie on the par-3 fifth. After a double bogey on No. 6, he birdied the par-4 seventh and ended with two pars.

Ethan Davidson added a round of 76 towards the team total. Davidson had five pars and four bogeys on the back side of the course to stand at 4-over. He was even on the front nine with a birdie on the par-5 ninth, seven pars and a bogey.

Jeff Carr shot 77 on Monday with two birdies, four bogeys and a triple bogey.

Sacramento State will complete the tournament on Tuesday with the third round. The team will be paired with UTEP and individuals starting at 8:30 a.m. PT off the 10th tee.
