DARKNESS HALTS SECOND ROUND OF WAVES CHALLENGE

SOMIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team played its first rounds of the spring season on Monday at the Waves Challenge at Saticoy Country Club. The Hornets were led by Devyn Fitchhorn and are in 15th place when play was halted due to darkness. The second round will conclude on Tuesday morning and will be immediately followed by the final round.

Sacramento State struggled through the opening round, totaling a season-high 339. With winds gusting in excess of 30 miles per hour, the team accounted for only four birdies in the round while finishing at 51-over par. Sophomore Devyn Fitchhorn led the team with a 79. Fitchhorn birdied the par-3 ninth and also had eight bogeys during the morning round. His score placed him in a tie for 21st place after the first 18 holes.

The Hornets also counted rounds from Zach Liberatore, Eric Olsem and Jeff Carr in the first round.

All five members of the team were able to play 14 holes in the second round before play was stopped. Olsem is 7-over in the round to lead the team. Fitchhorn and Liberatore are each 9-over while Carr and Patel stand at 11- and 14-over, respectively.

Host Pepperdine leads the team competition at 17-over. The Waves have a 21-stroke lead over UC Santa Barbara who's in second place.
