BURLINGTON, Iowa — Senior Ash Patel posted his second under-par round at the Golfweek Conference challenge to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team on Tuesday. Patel shot 71 and finished the tournament tied for 10th place at 70-72-71-213 (3-under par). Sacramento State concluded the three-day tournament in 15th place.

Patel started the final round, which was delayed over two hours due to fog, on the 15th hole and had four pars before placing birdies on the par-4 first and third holes around a bogey on the par-4 second. He added two more pars and then dropped to 2-under with a birdie on the par-5 sixth. Patel parred seven of his final eight holes with the exception being a bogey on the par-4 11th.

Eric Olsem ranked second on the team and tied for 57th overall at 73-78-75-226. Olsem had 16 pars during the third round. A double bogey on his second hole, the par-4 17th, and a bogey on the par-4 fourth left him at 3-over during the day.

Devyn Fitchhorn and Zak Sievers each contributed to the team total on Tuesday with rounds of 78. Fitchhorn tied for 68th at 74-79-78-231. He was 8-over through his first 14 holes with five bogeys and a double bogey. He made up two strokes over the final four holes with birdies on the par-4 13th and 16th. Sievers shot 77-83-78-238 to tie for 73rd. His final round had two birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey.

Wonje Choin rounded out the lineup with an 81 in the third round. He ranked third on the team overall by tying for 62nd place. Choi started Tuesday with a birdie on the par-5 15th and was only 1-over through eight holes. However, he had four bogeys and two double bogeys on his final 10 holes.

North Carolina State edged host Iowa by two strokes to win the team title. The Wolfpack finished the tournament at 17-under par and were 1-under during the final round. Benjamin Shipp of NC State was the medalist at 10-under (68-69-69-206).

Sacramento State will next compete at the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno, Calif., on Oct. 2-3.
