SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team added two members to its 2013 recruiting class with the signings of Luke Kristo and Riley Hayfield, it was announced today by head men's coach Christopher Hall.
The pair played at College of the Canyons the last two seasons and helped the Cougars win the 2013 California State Junior College championship. Both will enroll at Sacramento State in the fall as juniors and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"Coming from a winning program, they both bring that attitude and know what it takes to compete at a high level," Hall said. "They both should fit right in with the team and have a chance to compete near the top of the lineup."
Kristo was a two-time all-Western States Conference selection and helped COC to a 70-1 record during 2013. At the conference championships, he shot 67-72-139 to place second. During his two seasons at COC, he averaged 72.3 in the 2012 and 72.5 in 2013. Kristo prepped at Quartz Hill HS in Lancaster, Calif., where he was named all-valley four times. He was the medalist at the league tournament during his senior season and helped the team to three league titles.
A native of Kennewick, Wash., Hayfield was a three-time all-district honoree at Kamiakin HS. As a junior, he was the district champion after winning the tournament by four strokes. He went on to become a two-time all-Western States Conference selection at COC. During the 2013 season, he finished first in three tournaments and had three rounds below 70.
