SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State's Ryan Williams and Jordan Weir were both selected to compete in the NCAA Div. I Men's Golf Regionals, it was announced tonight. The pair are the first individuals to qualify for the event since Sacramento State moved to Div. I. The Hornets advanced as a team last season and competed in Norman, Okla.
The regional will be conducted May 16-18 with 14 teams and five individuals slated to compete. The low five teams and the lowest individual outside of those teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
Williams, a senior from Clovis, Calif., is the top seeded individual in the field. The senior is coming off a spectacular season where he set the Sacramento State single season record with a stroke average of 72.58 in 33 rounds. He most recently tied for fifth place at the America Sky Championships.
Weir was the medalist at the America Sky Championships, recording rounds of 72-70-71-213. The El Dorado Hills, Calif., native averaged 75.26 in 27 rounds this season.
