SEASIDE, Calif. — Sophomore Owen Taylor shot a team-best 71 in the final round and Ryan Williams tied for fourth overall to highlight the Sacramento State men's golf team's performance at the Saint Mary's Invitational.

Sacramento State continued its climb up the standings, finishing in eighth place after shooting 315-290-292-897. The ranked last among the 15 schools following the first round but with the fourth lowest score over the final two rounds trailing only Saint Mary's Kentucky and Oregon.

"If we could get rid of the first round it was a good tournament for us," Sacramento State men's coach Christopher Hall said. "Through 12 holes of the second and third round we had the low score and the guys can see what they are capable of doing. Overall, it is a good building block for the rest of the year."

Host Saint Mary's claimed the team title with a three-round score of 860. Kentucky was second at 867 while Oregon (874), Fresno State (878) and Santa Clara (882) rounded out the top five.
