SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the first time in over a decade, the Sacramento State men's golf team will compete at home. The team will host the Sacramento State Invitational presented by The Old Spaghetti Factory beginning on Monday, March 11, at Valley Hi Country Club. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday before playing 18 holes on Tuesday. Admission is free to the public.

The 14-team field spans the country with Universities represented from California to South Carolina. The tournament will also give the Hornets a look at several teams from its America Sky Conference, comprised of Houston Baptist, Texas-Pan American, Southern Utah and CSU Bakersfield.

Sacramento State's lineup will remain steady with senior Ryan Williams occupying the top spot. Jordan Weir will play No. 2 and will be followed by Jordan Swanson, Owen Taylor and Aaron Beverly.

Location: Boise, Idaho Head Coach: Kevin Burton
Conference: Mountain West Golfweek Team Ranking: 188
Boise State began its spring season at the Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah, where it placed 14th. Senior T.K. Kim recorded his sixth consecutive top 25 finish by tying for 21st place. Kim has finished among the top 25 14 times during his career which is tied for ninth on BSU history and is the most by any Bronco since 2008.

Conference: America Sky Golfweek Team Ranking: 245
CSU Bakersfield will be competing in its sixth tournament of the 2012-13 season. The Roadrunners top finish came at the Folino Invitational where they were seventh among nine teams. Senior Patrick Bell is the highest ranked individual for CSUB. Bell carded a final-round 65 and finished second at the Boise State Dash Thomas Memorial in September.

Conference: Big West Golfweek Team Ranking: 93
Cal State Fullerton is the highest ranked team in the tournament. The Titans are 93rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and 80th in the Head-to-Head rankings. Fullerton has five top four finishes this year, including a second place showing at the Firestone Grill Invitational in October. The team has placed fourth in its last two events. Junior Dakota Duerr averages 72.55 to lead the Titans. Duerr most recently finished second at the Del Walker Intercollegiate after shooting 71-68-68-207.


Location: Chico, Calif. Head Coach: T.L. Brown
Conference: CCAA Golfweek Team Ranking: 8 Div. II
Chico State began the season ranked No. 1 in Div. II after finishing second at the NCAA Div. II Championships last May. The Wildcats are currently ranked eighth in Div. II after placing sixth at the Coyote Classic in February. In that tournament, freshman Alistair Docherty had a pair of aces. In its only other spring tournament, Chico State finished second at the Robert Hunter Invitational. Redshirt freshman Scott Raber is ranked among the top 250 players in all NCAA divisions.

Houston Baptist had a strong fall, ending the season ranked 105th in the Golfweek rankings. The Huskies have already played three events during the spring, including a fifth-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate. Sophomore Preston Stanley owns the highest ranking for HBU in the computer rankings. The Huskies and Hornets will meet again at the America Sky Conference Championship.

Conference: West Coast Golfweek Team Ranking: 128
Loyola Marymount has been on a roll, finishing third in its last two tournaments. The Lions began the streak at the Folino Invitational and repeated the third-place showing at the Del Walker Classic. Tyler Torano was the medalist at the Del Walker Classic, shooting 66-70-67-203 to finish 7-under. He was in a three-way tie for first place at the Folino before losing a playoff. The junior also tied for second at the Querancia Cabo Collegiate in October.

Conference: Summit Golfweek Team Ranking: 271

Nebraksa Omaha will be competing for the first time since Oct. 23 when it plays at the Sacramento State Invitational. The Mavericks took part in six events during the fall and were victorious at the Concordia Invitational in September. Sophomore Karl Krieser and junior Alex Overfelt are tied for the team lead with both averaging 77.0. Krieser also owns the three lowest rounds on the team this year with a 71 and a pair of 72s.

Sacramento State won the 2012 America Sky Championship and earned its first bid to an NCAA Regional. This year, the Hornets have competed in seven tournaments, including a fifth-place finish at the Folino Invitational in February. Senior Ryan Williams has been the clear leader, averaging 72.43 in 21 rounds. Williams has four top 10 finishes and tied for the low at the Folino Invitational before falling in a playoff.  He has 13 rounds of par or below this year and has shot 72 or better in eight of his last nine rounds.

Seattle began the spring portion of its schedule by tying for sixth place at the Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, Utah. The Redhawks' highest finish came at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational in October where they were fourth. Will Holdridge has at least tied for the team low in the last three tournaments and Rob Seibly leads SUU with a 74.5 stroke average.

Conference: Atlantic Sun Golfweek Team Ranking: 169

USC Upstate has already recorded a pair of team titles and four top-four showings in 2012-13. The Spartans were victorious at the Rutgers Invitational in September and won the Charleston Shooutout on March 4-5. The team also finished third at the Forest Hills Intercollegiate and was fourth at the Stetson/CFSC Invitational. Individually, Adam Goins owns a 74.47 average and was the medalist at Rutgers. Brad Sill was the individual champion at Forest Hills.

South Dakota will be appearing in its first tournament of the spring at the Sacramento State Invitational. The Coyotes competed in five tournaments in the fall including a third-place finish in the six-team Erv Kaiser Invitational. Samuel Matthew averages 75.20 to lead the team and is closely followed by Alex Kline's mark of 75.80. Matthew placed among the top 10 in two of the team's five fall events.

Southern Utah will be competing in its third tournament of the spring. The Thunderbirds are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Desert Invitational where they were led by Sammy Cole who finished 26th (74-75-72-221). Sophomore Tim Leonard owns the lowest average for the T-Birds at 74.3 over 20 rounds. Leonard placed ninth at the Battle of the Tetons in September for his best finish.

Conference: America West Golfweek Team Ranking: 247
Two years after winning the America Sky title, UTPA is in a rebuilding year in 2012-13. The Broncs have finished last or next-to-last in all but one tournament this year. Most recently, UTPA tied for 11th out of 13 at the San Antonio Shootout. Kevin Kirakossian was the highest finisher for the Broncs, tying for 32nd at 83-74-157 in a wind-shortened event.

UC Santa Barbara is coming off an eighth place finish at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The Gauchos' highest finish this year came at the Bill Cullum Invitational where they were sixth out of 20 teams. Senior Glen Scher finished seventh at the Fresno State Lexus Classic after shooting 68-72-70-210.
