MEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS UC SANTA BARBARA TRANSFER AND LOCAL STANDOUT CHRISTIAN TERRELL

SACRAMENTO -- Christian Terrell, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard who played in 75 games at UC Santa Barbara after prepping locally at Sacramento High School, is transferring to play at Sacramento State, it was announced by Hornet head coach Brian Katz.

Terrell, who has played each of the last three years at UC Santa Barbara, will sit out the 2019-20 season and have one year of eligibility in 2020-21.

The local product from Sacramento played at least 18 games all three seasons with the Gauchos (2016-19), which included 21 starts. During his time at UCSB, he combined for totals of 180 points, 198 rebounds, 105 assists, 42 steals and 14 blocked shots. Of his 198 rebounds, 47 came on the offensive glass and he played in 1,216 minutes.

Terrell appeared in 27 games as a freshman, 30 as sophomore and 18 this past season, averaging 16.2 minutes per game over that span. The supremely athletic Terrell's career highs with the Gauchos were 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

He prepped locally at Sacramento High School where he was a four-time all-league selection and three-time all-city choice. Terrell was named first team all-league during each of his final three years with the Dragons, and helped the team to league championships all four seasons. That included a section championship during his senior year when he averaged 13.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game while shooting 59 percent from the field. As a junior, he averaged 13.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.2 steals, 1.2 blocks.

"We've known Christian since he was a freshman in high school and recruited him heavily," Katz said. "We always liked him, and, in my opinion, will be one of the most athletic players we've had in the program. He is a big multi-talented guard who can score, pass, rebound and defend."

Terrell becomes the sixth member of Sacramento State's incoming class, joining forward Spencer Monteiro (San Joaquin Delta JC), guard Ryan Blackmon (Culver City HS), forward Jordan Cooke-Harper (Southwestern JC), guard Rick Barros III (Nation Wide Academy) and guard Raazhel Watkins (Los Medanos JC).
