SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento State men's basketball program added a fifth player to its incoming class, announcing that San Joaquin Delta College forward Spencer Monteiro will join the program for the 2019-20 season.

Monteiro, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound forward from Woodbridge, Calif., spent the past two seasons at Delta College after playing four years of prep ball at Lodi High School. He will enroll at Sacramento State as a junior.

Last year as a sophomore (2018-19), Monteiro was the starting forward and team captain for the Mustangs who finished 23-7 overall and won the Big 8 Conference championship with a 14-2 record. He was named first team all-state and conference MVP after starting all 30 games while averaging 17.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. he shot 57% (209-369) from the field, 65% (13-20) from the 3-point line and 71% (101-143) from the free throw line. Of his 307 rebounds, 118 came on the offensive glass and he scored in double figures in all but four games.

A two-time first team all-league selection at Delta College, he averaged 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds as a freshman. That season, he shot 54% (80-149) from the field and 77% (43-56) from the free throw line. He played in all 55 of Delta's games during his two-year tenure, starting all but one of those contests.

Prior to Delta College, Monteiro played four years at Lodi High School. As a senior in 2015-16, he helped the Flames to a Tri-City Athletic League championship. That year, he was named first team all-league and honorable mention all-area after averaging 11.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 50% from the field. Of his 157 rebounds, 69 came on the offensive glass.

"Spencer is a very athletic front line player who turned down other Div. I offers to play here," Sacramento State head coach Brian Katz said. "He is a high energy guy who is a very good rebounder and scorer."

Monteiro becomes the fifth member of Sacramento State's incoming class, joining guard Ryan Blackmon (Culver City HS), forward Jordan Cooke-Harper (Southwestern JC), guard Rick Barros III (Nation Wide Academy) and guard Raazhel Watkins (Los Medanos JC).
